Now at John 17, one month count down

Today, I've just committed John 17 in my temporary memory. This is another time that I am having goose bumps, as Jesus was praying because I know I am included when he said in verse 20 "I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word" as if I heard, he prayed "Father, I am praying not only for my disciples but also Catleya and the rest who believed in me", and the last verse "that she will also see my glory that you had given me...", and "I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have love me may be in them and I in them ".   The Lord indeed is our intercessor, we needed Him badly or we will never be worthy to come near to the father unless he would justify us. Honestly although I had many hard times memorizing the Gospel of John, and that I'm now 84% at 6th month, I didn't regretted I chose this book, it helps me to understand better ...

Another Memorization Setback at John 13 (The first setback was at John 6)

Just to refresh that the last setback I had was when I was memorizing John 6. The circumstance that time was that I changed from full time to part time job. When I started to work from home, having so much time and facing adjustments of routines - had resulted not favourably to my memorization goals. I was delayed for more than a month in my memorization schedules. Now I am in John 13 and had another setback. The circumstance now that I faced is that we had 8 days vacation in Philippines and I could not bring my nanny because of her unsettled paper works. Thus when I was in Philippines, I focused on looking after my 23 month old son and adjustment in the houses we stayed and places we went to. Another reason I think that prevent me was the context of what I was memorizing. The first setback on John 6 is partly because that was the longest chapter I tried to commit to memory and the story I was memorizing was full of "words that are spirit", something...

Memorization with my Little One

Deuteronomy 6:5-7 5  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.     My son will be 2 years old in two months time. We are doing our best to raise him with rich knowledge from God's word while teaching him secular knowledge, all with the help of our Lord and His spirit. We know how important hiding God's words in His little heart not just because it is a commandment on Deuteronomy 6:5-7 as quoted on the top of this post. Maybe now it is more of hiding in his memory more than his heart since he didn't fully understand all that he memorizes, but I believe in the future he will reap the benefits when his understanding grows.   ...

My Progress in John and Insights on my Daily Bible Reading

I am glad that I decided to be firm and use back ESV and not change the bible translation for memorization. I could see that I am back to track following my schedule, today I had finished memorizing John 10, though it is still in my temporary memory. The advantage that I was stirred which bible translation to use is that I discovered great insights from an NKJV based bible study "New Spirit Filled Life bible" given a brother who helped me to become Christian. Before, this book gather dust in the shelf but now it became helpful for me in studying the Word. As I am reviewing my old chapters, I cant help but be struck on John 6 the portions when Lord Jesus said "I am the bread of Life". This was the most difficult chapter and longest that I tried to commit to memory. I suppose to finish it by 3 weeks but it took me more than two months. Thanks be to God for giving me grace to continue pressing on this goal, I could not quote it perfectly yet but time wi...

Decision changes in Bible Version from ESV to NKJV or retain?

After our bible Marathon cum fasting today, I've been thinking about changing my memorization bible from ESV to NKJV, just a try. So far I am working on my 7th book on my 7th month, that is 14% of the NT. This is not an easy decision to make. Considering I had 1,031 memorized verse base on www.memverse.com  and 438+ isolated verse in my AnkiDroid. I've research again why I chose ESV over NKJV despite that our church mainly uses NKJV. Well, the main reason is its readability and that I could not find an audio bible that is in NKJV while ESV had in YouVersion and Bible.Is. Honestly, my heart is so close to ESV as I've started memorizing from it. However, for the sake of the unity of the church, it is wiser for me to use NKJV, they are not too different anyway, just a few words are different in every verse or order of words. Besides if I would continue to memorize in ESV and back and forth sing in NKJV, it takes a lot of work for my mind to remember my ESV since as I sin...

Sample Weekly Schedule - After Completion

Psalm 90:12   So teach us to number our days      that we may get a heart of wisdom. From my previous blog   http://memorizent.blogspot.sg/2015/12/sample-weekly-schedule.html which has ended yesterday, I've made a few variations and I also marked my results. I felt quite frustrated that I am not able to recite Ephesians 2 and some of the other books entirely from memory. Its ironic that when I got more time since the Lord enabled me to do freelance work than fulltime, I could do less of my memory work. The enemy is more active when we had so much idle time. But since I am documenting my progress and failures, I know where to focus and change to achieve the goal implanted in my heart. My solution for these setback is research on what other Christians who had been successful had done to overcome setbacks. I am comforted that many memorizers have this same experiences. The reason why I had this setback is because I am not consis...

Sample Weekly Schedule - Plan stage

Here's a sample of my weekly schedule, I put a label actual to put what actually I followed base on my targets. I printed this and post on the fridge and see how it goes. Note: If you would look in my 5-year plan I put there 5 verses per day only but what I do is I try to memorize more than 5 a day then on the last few days remaining for the chapter, I would use for review. Its like a contingency plan in case there are days that I become busy, at least I am ahead of my schedule than late.
