Bible Memory Goal Community

I felt so blessed to have found a community of likeminded people who loves the word of God, they also like me memorize huge part of the bible. I am now part of this group called Bible Memory Goal community link : https://community.biblememorygoal.com/ From now on I guess I won't be able to update my journal regularly as I am updating also my progress there and I got encourage by members and I also try to be an encouragement. I hope this time I will no longer have any hiatus in this goal. My plan is to not miss two days in a row of atleast reviwing the books in my schedule, if I really cannot memorize new verses. Another way is instead of having 5-20 verses which is possible, I'll try to take in 2-3 new verses if my day is really so exhausting. I find it that it actually helps me to take my mind away to what are the causes of my exhaustion (work stress) because there is something greater and more rewarding that I am focusing. The Word of God is indeed such treasure, more precio...

2 Peter Re-Memorizing - Completed

Image
21 Jan 2024 I'm now on my third day of memorizing 2 Peter, so I am targeting to finish until 15-verse. I'm trying to slow it down although I know I can memorize more than 5 verses but the review later will not be easy so I am trying to stick to my plan, master what little I have to memorize so that review will be a bliss. I had initially memorized this for 20 days but now I am targeting to finish by 12 days and daily review should be completed on the 19th day. Maybe I'll do more than 7 days, will see how rough or smooth would it be. 27 Jan 2024 I've just memorized the first two chapters of 2 Peter. It is a bit rough but this is normal that the first few days will be rough but eventually when I am on my daily review, it will eventually smoothen as it cements to memory even deeper. 3 Feb 2024 I've completed memorizing 2 Peter on end of January. I put it in daily and actually I am now on the 3rd day of Memorizing 1 John. I rarely update my blog because I am now...

Re-start my journey on Jan 2024 target to complete on 2030 (3rd Attempt)

Image
It's been 2 years that I stopped my memorizing, and I can't quote any of those 20% of NT that I memorized before. The major reason of this halt is I took a certification exam for CBAP and I reviewed for a year which enable me to switch job to a new company, I'm now on my 5th month. I never had a BA title before but praise God I applied as Senior Business Analyst and I was accepted by grace of God, I know I am highly favored and with my strong faith that God is with me, I also do the works (James 2:26) so that certification is the work that I did as preparation. Now I am able to go back to this quest. I've re-memorized James 1-3 on Monday and Tuesday for James 4-5. On 3rd day I’m able to recite James entirely, which I need to do for 7 days before I put to weekly, then monthly after a month, then monthly for a year then maybe every other month after a year. I also created a calendar with my plan to re-memorize for the whole month.  On 4th day is 1 Peter 1 then on 5th day ...

SAVERS

12-Jan-2024 I’m in my 5th day since I restart my journey, surprisingly I woke up early at 5AM. I used to drag myself to wake up but I am too excited for my journey I guess so I did my SAVERS from the book Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod.: S- Silence spent by praying A- Affirmation in my Miracle Morning apps ( I moved to my red journal written next day to reduce screen on early morning) V- Visualization, I visualize how my day will like incorporating my meditation of His words and how it benefits me and how I love doing it E- It will be my daily scooter to work and back is enough exercise R- See scripture on my scribing schedule S- Scribing - This entry for today, this blog is my journal. My schedule today is to recite 1 Pet 2 first half that I already memorized yesterday, recite 1 Pet 1 & James from memory, then memorize the last half of 1 Pet 2. I also need to record 1 Pet 3 tonight in my iPhone as preparation for tomorrow. @7PM  I’m glad I able to do all my plans.

Galatians is almost done, Reviewing 1st Peter

Just want to document that I am in the last chapter of Galatians in my memorizing new book schedule, while reviewing 1st Peter which I had memorized few years ago that I now wanted to be fresh again. Lately I was going into some issue on insecurity and the words that I memorized was the ones that carry me through. When I could not sleep in the night, I would recite a book that I know that could help my situation, recently it was the book of James. I know that there are times this task seem difficult when many other things are pressing to me like a new issue at work, or something that needs my attention but I need to remind myself that if I won't renew my mind with the word of truth, how can I stand over the enemy lies that bombards me day and night? "the adversary prowls around like a lion seeking someone to devour" 1 Peter 5:8. I won't be a casualty again, for as the day goes, I am keeping more fighters weapon in my heart and in my mind. Thanks to His words, they are...

2 Peter has been Memorized

Image
Glad to document that I'm now in my daily recital of 2nd Peter. It took me 20 days to hide in my heart and maybe I will need a week of daily recital to make it smooth. I'm now in the midst of Galatians 1st chapter, looking forward to complete all new verses by midst of next month (Feb 5-Mar 15, 2021). I had planned to try to review 1st Peter (last review was last year) at same time as taking new verses, but my progress is not so good for this one, things are getting busy. Anyway, the most important is that I am on track with my new verses and reviewing my "just memorized" ones. I found the value of logging my progress, whenever I am on some delays, I look back on my logs and see how I recover, taking one step at a time, looking forward for the benefits I am reaping as I grow in the knowledge of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I felt being cleansed by His words, renewing my mind by reviewing His words than focusing on other non-essential things that adds burden in lif...

The Most Delightful Time in Kitchen

Haven't realized all pots were used and pile of dishes from morning and so the sink was full 120%! I said "BRING IT ON!", wore my gloves, apron and clipped a photocopy of the part I'm reviewing, happens its 1st Peter that I am so delighted! To recall the grace that I enjoy now, that the Prophets was serving us now and not them on their prophesies about the Christ's cross and the subsequent glories... I had finished all the dishes and almost done with 1st chapter, my heart is full with great things and filled with grace to look forward each day! New verses I memorized today are the first 4 verses of 2 Peter 3. Recited the whole James, and yes I am up to re-"memorize" 1st Peter, this was the 2nd book I memorized a couple of years ago. If I have any regrets in my life recently, it's not being diligent and not reviewing the books I already memorized, and not adding new verses. It was my 2nd longest hiatus (a full year) and in God's grace hoping to co...

Going Back to Memorization on Jan 2021

25 Jan 2021  For exactly one year now, I hold my memorization goals, you might ask WHY? I tried to do an Online business at end of 2019 in the hope that I would be just working at home if I would succeed. My prayer request is to be able to quit my full time job at age of 40 so I won't need to go to office. However, the ways of the Lord is higher, because of the Pandemic, I was allowed to work from home exactly at age 40 for almost 100%. That's why before the year 2020 ends, I quit the Online business, my motivation was just not there.  I am so grateful that I now had more time being at home. That's why naturally I returned to my quest to memorize the New Testament. This time, I'd like a slow but sure way. If memorizing 5 verses needs 5 years, and it seem difficult to keep up in some days, then I'll do smaller - 3 verses a day so that needs about 7 years, but considering I had memorized 20% before it shouldn't take that long "IF I WON'T STOP". My te...

Hold Memorization Activity

Romans has been really a very enlightening book for me. However I promise myself to hold on to what I only attain, I wasn't able to finish it and have not reviewed...but I will not give up in my lifetime for this quest. Its delay but not completely end. The best insight I had was "The one who love another has fulfilled the law". Recently, I joined a community that are very supportive with each other, welcome each other and celebrate each other's success. The aim of the team is to achieve their dreams and each helps each other. It happens that my struggle in unable to complete my goals in memorization is because I need more time, having multiple jobs and other responsibilities (of course I love to spend time with my family). It was so different than the "Romans group" that I had, maybe its just I was not able to find like minded people in that group. Only a few and the rest needs a lot of inspiration...and I can't blame anyone, Memorizing is not for e...

Progress Update for Romans - 2nd Chunk Done - Romans 11

Image
This is continuation from the post Setback Happens - Just do it Anyway - Romans 10 . Just wanted to post this message I put in our Messenger group. Also I am glad to check that my average review chapters is 7 chapters a month - more than my 6 chapters target. This is the advantage that I updated the format to log the number chapters, although I had a setback due to some situation in my day job, there were days before that setback that I review more than 6 chapters and end up I am still within my target, the Lord is good!. Remember that a goal is only challenging if it is achievable, and seeing progress adds the motivation.   It has been my habit to look into my schedules and be inspired, in just few weeks I will complete Romans, actually if all goes well on Christmas I already have all the new verses memorized. My 5 year old son says, "Romans will be your Christmas gift!" yes indeed, and I will always treasure it in my heart!   I'd like to note I had ...

Setback Happens, Just Do It Anyway - Romans 10

Image
2 Timothy 2:4 "No soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him." Before this post, I updated review methods . Also the last progress update of Romans is in this post ,  haven't written any insights due to this setback... I wish I could say that everyday I have the same level of enthusiasm and it always brings me joy and excitement to do all I have written in my daily schedules. As much as I want to put my mind in the things of the spirit, I could sometimes forget that verse (2 Timothy 2:4), and I could get entangled with a controversy in my day job (which is not profitable as discussed to Titus 3:9, so I better not talk about it here too) - just I have to mention that these kinds of things can succumb my thought life that hinders in this quest. At least now I have a thermometer of my level of peace, if I could not follow my daily plans, there is something wrong and I have to be sober minded and submit myself in pray...

Reviewing Methods

Image
Philippians 3:16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained. When the first time I memorize the new verses , that is the 'play' part, for the discovery brings so much joy and excitement which somehow I miss out when I just read the texts. The reviewing part is necessary to cement them to memory and could become a 'work' but for me its all worth it. In fact, I find insights and more understanding during reviewing times, even years after I had initially have stored them in my heart.  This is my favorite spot of reviewing, while on MRT on my way to work, near the door and facing the window so no one will be disturbed while I recite - trying to be as silent as I can. Recently I have tried to use a digital voice recorder to aid in my reviews. So when I recite a recent chapter I just memorized, I would record my voice, then check later it against my bible if anything I miss out. This is really helpful to detect any mistakes, so ...

Progress of Romans (1st Chunk Down) and Deciding Which Book is Next

Image
The previous post before this is My Progress in Memorizing Romans (Chapters 4-6) The first chunk (Romans 1-5) is down halleluiah!, note that I initially posted this Romans Schedule Plan on this link .  I know this is a long way to go, this is the 9th book in my 5-Year Plan . Yet I am very happy and blessed to the insights I am having now, and yes I am now planning what should be the next one. Maybe I wont have the time and eloquence to express my insights but the Lord knows my heart more than any article or journal I wrote. I keep the running numbers and % of New Testament to encourage myself, now about 22% and a long way to go. Not that I perfectly memorized every verse but they all certainly precious for me, like money in a bank that I could use one day, but this is not like the low bank interest, this one is like an investment that pays more dividend than any other practices I do. More than that, every day - the day and moment I memorize my new verse...

Revised 5-Year Plan to Memorize New Testament (2019-2023) Note: 2nd Attempt That I didn't Achieved YET!

Image
I was inspired from a post "You Can Memorize the New Testament" . Thus I created my initial ideal plan 5 year plan , which I posted on Dec 2015. However, I have a two year hiatus from 2017-2018 which I consider also a blessing for I know how was my life when I stopped this activity, then I have now revised my 5-year goal, in God's will and His grace. I've re-memorized my 8 books and Romans 8 from January to October 2019, in this image below at date of writing I am working on Romans. I'm praying for the Lord's strength to complete by end of 2023 and I am open to revise no matter what helps to complete this in God's grace. This excel file below has formulas and also has 2 days break or interval between books like a grace period, then I usually change 'Plan start date' depends if the 'Actual End Date' of the last book was different than planned. This time I have some brothers and sisters who are memorizing too thus I look forward it is g...

My Progress in Memorizing Romans (Chapters 4-6)

My previous post before this is 'Another Day for Romans Memorization - Romans 3 and Read Through' .     Would like to note that if there is anything I would remember from Romans 4, it is to walk in the steps of our Abraham, to have faith base on the integrity of the promiser (Our God who gives life to the dead and calls to existence the things that do not exist) and not consider the circumstances (Abraham was 100 year old but no unbelief made him waver on the promise of God).   Romans 5 was the most difficult for me to memorize especially on Verses 15-21. If there is anything that rings me most, its the V17, we who receive the abundance of grace and free gift of righteousness will reign in life through our Lord Jesus Christ, I paraphrased and emphasized. This chapter also inspires me to write about additional benefit in this activity and created this article 'Precious Memories Over Bad Experiences' .   Today I memorized 6:5-11, I was dancin...

Precious Memories Over Bad Experiences

The previous post which I was inspired for this article is in this link  My Progress in Memorizing Romans (Chapters 4-6).   Philippians 3:13 - Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead   2 Corinthians 5:17-21 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.   Have you watched a movie or heard a story about someone who had amnesia and forgotten all including the bad memories he or she had and turned out to be a blessing for he can start a new fresh life? I had watched many that even those villain became suddenly a good person, or maybe they had found their knight in shining armor who saved them and accepted them no matter what their past was. Well that might be a fantasy but actually we can see that even Paul has not made it himself to forget some unfortunate past....

New Verses Memorization

Image
My method has evolved many times, as discussed here . I have separated my method for memorizing new verses. First of all, I prepare my daily excel schedule beforehand. I realized that when I am at work, if before my new verses memorization would depend on how busy my work is, for example if I was too busy and or stressed, I could not do my memorization at all, but in God's grace now and being mindful what is my priority - I was able to set aside whatever burden and do this task whatever the situation is, the quality and quantity may differ but I will do it daily. The irony is if things gets busy like 3rd or 4th working day (but not too much) I could take in more than my schedule like 8 verses compared to a normal day, and I if things are really so busy (or its more of if my job requires more thinking) then I would take lesser like 1-3 new verses. I believe the regularity or doing it on the same time of the day really makes this thi...

Another Day for Romans Memorization - Romans 3 and Read Through

I remember a verse David prayed 'Restore to me the joy of your salvation', I kind of need to pray this sometimes when the mediocre of life makes me forget the great things we already have. That joy is something I love to savor which I did today in so much gratitude to our Lord. Today I am on leave for the required vaccine for Henry, my 2-year-old son. By the way, we only take the required ones because if we don't he won't be allowed to enroll in schools in Singapore. I believe the Lord is our protection in everything but we have to follow the law of the land. So today I recited Romans 1st chapter while on shower and Romans 2nd chapter while traveling to the clinic. Then I went to a mall named Jems, I bought my favorite drink 'Teh Kah Si' with my simple pleasure 'Roti Prata' (somehow this food reminds me of Romans 8) and enjoyed my snack while reciting my recently memorized verses in Romans 3. Aside from food, sometimes I associate the place I were wh...

My Progress in Memorizing Romans (Chapters 1-3)

Image
18 October 2019 In God's grace I have memorized Romans 1 in 7 days (13th - 17th Oct) - that is I can recite without the bible even how rough it is, for my memory's sake I put below my message to our group. 22 Oct 2019 While doing daily review for 1st chapter of Romans, I memorized the Romans 2 from 18th to 22nd Oct, this chapter is quite short. I felt so humbled for I know we all have passed judgement in our life regarding those who practice things in Romans 1. 23-Oct-19 I wasn't really so diligent to review my older books and lately on evenings I use to peak on the bible while reciting them. My target is to be able to recite all the books without the bible, unless small things like a forgotten word. Thus to achieve this, after I review in the evening and when I notice I needed to peak in the bible, I put them on next morning review while I am more relaxed and fresh. Thus, I change my daily schedule format to add the 'Plan f...

Forgetfulness and Memorizing

Image
My Journal Like other people who says they are forgetful that is why they are doing Bible memorization, same is true for me, maybe I'm the foremost in being forgetful - that is why I am doing this as my preparation. This is a weakness I can boast so that the Lord's power may dwell on me. Well maybe if I have a removable body part I have already lost it! That is why I gave up using eyeglasses and rely in the Lord's grace that my eyesight is enough for my daily living needs. I remember then that whenever I leave my eyeglasses (the grade I remember was 300 and 500), I could not function well and gives me headaches that is why I resolve to not use any eyeglass (and I can't risk on contact lenses either, what if I sleep with it!) , the Lord is faithful who provides what I needed daily. In fact I found my old journal I wrote 18 years ago on my college days, that my problem is being so forgetful.  To continue above thought, I know I am not perfect but I beli...
